Blue Loses Close One to Cranford 6-5 in Union Tourney

Westfield batters started off with a bang in the 1st inning with 3 singles by Tyler, Rowan and Steven. After Tyler got around the bases to steal home, Owen Murray and Justin hit Rowan and Steven in for additional runs. Parker then took the mound and dealt with the top of the line up quickly, getting the 3rd out with a diving catch and then a throw to 1st, with the announcer exclaiming, "What a play by the pitcher".

Cranford closed in on Westfield in the bottom of the second, getting two runs, and except for Cameron's and Owen B's long drives for singles, Westfield bats
were quiet in the top of the 2nd and 3rd innings. Cranford capped it off with a grand slam in the 3rd making the score 6-3.

But Westfield didn't give up. Steven and Parker responded with doubles in the 4th, and Westfield was able to add another run. Rowan came in to pitch and held Cranford with some solid D with Owen B. in right field and a nicely executed double play by Tyler, J.D. and Cameron. Westfield was getting closer in the 5th with another hit by Cameron and a single by Danielle. Great base running by J.D. allowed him to score on an overthrow to home plate, making it a nail bitter, 6-5. Rowan got the batters out 1,2,3 in the bottom of the 5th, but Westfield Blue was not able to catch up in the final inning. Liz Jeffery summed it up, stating "Westfield toughed it out until the end".
