Westfield Steals Victory in Lightning Shortened Game

Westfield Blue came away with a storm-shortened victory over Union, 6-4, to boost their league record to 5-3. All 6 Westfield runs were scored by stealing home, as the Union catcher was unable to handle his hard throwing, but wild lefty pitcher.

Westfield starter Cameron Bremer put the Union batters down 1-2-3 in the first and helped himself out of a jam in the 2nd by starting a double play to get out of the inning.

Owen Murray set the stage for the night in the bottom of the 2nd inning when he walked, and then stole 2nd, 3rd and home. As the evening wore on, Parker Hess (running for George Murray who had a solid single), Owen Brancatella, Michael Jeffery, Rowan Oberman and Steven Barmakian all stole home giving Westfield 6 runs without an RBI. Those six names will be the answer to the trivia question, “Which 6 Westfield Blue players accounted for all runs scored when they all stole home in one game?”

Union mounted a comeback, scoring 4 runs in their half of the 3rd inning, but JD Marner came in and put out the fire in the 4th.

Westfield was due up in the bottom of the 5th inning when the lightning alarm went off, ending the game.

Injury Report:
George Murray - day to day with a rash.
Rowan Oberman – bruised left middle finger in a freak “reaction ball” injury prior to tonight’s game, he is not expected to miss his next start.

Coach Murray has banned the use of reaction balls in the future.
