Westfield Blue battled through six tough innings in their game against Warren, but some big hits and not so big defense ultimately combined to give Warren the edge and a 12-11 win.
Blue led off with five big runs in the first inning, starting with a lead-off triple by Tyler Roth, an RBI hit by Rowan Oberman, another RBI hit by Steven Barmakian, walks by Cameron Bremer, Justin Lin and Owen Murray, and RBI hits by Parker Hess and George Murray. But Warren evened the score in the bottom of the first, delivering five runs of its own.
The game progressed with Blue struggling at the plate for the next few innings. Daniel Criscuolo and Michael Jeffery delivered hits in the second, but the rest of the order couldn’t capitalize on them. Warren picked up three more runs in the third, and its ninth run in the fifth to lead the game 9-5 heading into the sixth inning.
Westfield bats came alive in the top of the sixth, scoring a total of six runs on hits from Rowan, Cameron, Justin, Owen Murray, Parker, and JD Marner to take the lead. But Warren returned to the plate and picked away at that lead, reaching base on an error, following up with a double, a sacrifice fly, another error and the game winning hit to pull out the win, 12-11.
Blue heads to Mountainside next for a league game.
